How much we can tailor a bike to your needs

Fit

Our stock depends on the used bikes and components we can source. We can't claim the level of customization available from a conventional bike shop, where you can usually specify different sizes and designs of components like stems and handlebars to improve the fit.  We'll always do our best, of course, with what's available when you buy your bike. If this doesn't give the flexibility you need, we'll be pleased to discuss a purchase minus certain components (deducting the cost of these from the price) so that you can source your own. If with our best efforst we can't meet your requirements we can recommend several retailers of new bikes in our area.

Fittings

Most Proud to Ride Classic bikes are racers or other forms of fast road bike. Fitting traditional mudguards on such bikes can be dangerous, as front wheel clearance depends on the rider's shoe size and foot position. And a traditional front mudguard without a safety release invites disaster. So unless we're satisfied that the steering will be unobstructed, and that we can install a safety release, we sell our bikes without mudguards.

We do also sell classic steel road touring bikes, and very occasionally a more heavy-duty tourer, if it's of high grade, lightweight tubing. Such bikes will generally be sold as originally kitted out. It's usually uneconomic for us to attempt full customisation because we don't carry stocks of accessories like a larger bike shop.  If one of our bikes appeals as the starting point of a custom build, please research the practicalities and costs before you buy it. We'll be delighted to advise and to help you locate the parts you need, perhaps from one of our recommended cycle retailers
